(More customer reviews)I've only grilled with it once so far, but I was very pleased with this grill surface thermometer. I own the Char-griller duo which is a great grill and has the built in thermometers in the lid. Well, any true griller will tell you, these built in thermometers are not accurate since the temperature on the top of the lid is much hotter than the actual surface of the grill, which is where you really want an accurate reading.
The built in thermometer did read over 100 degrees hotter than this grill surface thermometer placed directly on my grill.
I was a little skeptical as to this thermometers accuracy so I tested it in my oven which has a very accurate internal thermometer. This Taylor thermometer was accurate within +/- 10 degrees. Close enough for my needs. Other features I like about it is that it goes up to 800 degrees, it is magnetic so it stays in place, and it has a little spring you attach to the top for grabbing at with tongs or a spatula while hot. This model looks durable, and looks like a huge improvement over the last version that has horrible reviews here on Amazon. I cannot attest to how long it will last, but it looks well built and doesn't have any glaring flaws. I would recommend this product to a fellow griller.

Get yourgrill at the right temperature for the right cut of meat. The grill surface needs to be 500to 550 degrees degrees to perfectly sear your steaks. The thicker cuts of meat need a lower surface temperature so they won't burn or blacken. The thinner cuts of meat need to cooked higher and faster so they don't dry out.The Weekend Warriorfills this need at a reasonable cost. Rule of thumb- 1/2-inch steaks surface temperature 425 to 450 degrres. Medium cuts -3/4 to 1-inch thick- 360 to 400 degrees. Thicker cuts -1-1/4 to 1-1/2 thick - 325 to 350 degrees
