I had a "fork" thermometer that worked well but decided I'd like this one because it has a probe and could stay in the meat while it grilled.Or, of course, I could poke it from time to time to check the temperature. It is far from accurate.I tried it with a steak and the steak was overdone.I tried it again and the same problem.I checked it and found it measures boiling water at 196 degrees. But the error is not linear - in other words, I can't simply say it's off by 16 degrees. That means experimenting to find what the real temperature is when it tells me it's 145 degrees.I don't think I should have to do that with a thermometer I bought and which says it is "acu-rite." Unless, of course, acu-rite wants to send me the steaks to experiment with.
