I recently purchased the noted product through Amazon.com which I am most disappointed with.The item was delivered well beyond the anticipated due date, was either damaged in shipment, or damaged prior to purchase and delivery, either way it was received in a condition which I would not have accepted had I purchased this item outright / conventionally through a retail store offering same.
Lastly, which is most disturbing, the product came in an 'incomplete manufactured condition'. Meaning, there were several like kind parts to this item, all of which were critical to the assembly of the unit...which I was required to do.Each of those parts were to have two 1/4" holes drilled in it to be able to insert bolts through each in order to connect it to other pieces of the unit.One of those units did not have the two 1/4" holes drilled in it...which I had to do myself.Fortunately, I had a metal drill bit correctly sized to do the job...MYSELF!
No where close to what I bargined for Amazon.Nor is this something I will likely choose to do again, or recommend others to do as well.Too much to risk for the minimal savings I derive from purchasing through your services.

Weber 7526 Cooking Grate Review

A leading cooking publication explained the benefits of having a cast iron grill and, in a nutshell, it's all about heat retention.

Recently, I had the misfortune of having the original steel grates on my Weber completely rust through and decided there had to be a better alternative.After a little research, I found that stainless steel replacements were readily available and was going to go with them.As I was doing my research on Amazon, I saw that there were cast iron units also available and decided to research a little further.What I learned was that it takes a temperature of around 300 degrees to brown meat and that cooking drops the temperture of the grates rapidly.For stainless steel, it took about 15 minutes to preheat a grill to 500 degrees.Once the meat was added, it took only 2 minutes for the grate temperature to drop down to 300 degrees.With the cast iron, preheat time increased to 21 minutes, but the grates stayed above 300 degrees for over five minutes.In my own experience with the cast iron, the extra time made a huge difference in how well the grill cooked both burgers and steaks, adding nice grill marks and enhanced flavor.

Cast iron will eventually rust, but these grates are heavy and are enameled so I think they will last alot longer than the original steel, even stainless will degrade over time.You should always preheat your grill and these cast iron grates will make a difference.

Char-Broil Electric Patio Caddie, Stainless Steel Review

This grill is fine for people with limited space, condo grill restrictions, or who hate messing with gas canisters or charcoal. Grill is adequate in size for a small family and heats quickly to a high temperature. In use, grill cooks well and cleans easily although I am not in love with the sleazy insulating pads used on the lid and grill proper.They don't look like they will last and I really don't see why they are needed. They get dirty the first time you use the unit. Don't expect to periodically clean the grill interior with a garden hose with these pads in place

The grease collecting cup hanging beneath the grill is as useless here as the ones on every other grill I have used.If it doesn't fall off, it misses catching most of the grease. Throw it out and set a bowl or coffee can on the grill base to catch the drippings.

Assembly was tedious due to poor quality hardware. I defy a user to assemble this unit without stripping several of the screws. I threw out the junk Chinese screws and used my own hardened steel screws. Assembly instructions were adequate

The design should have at least included a lid hook allowing you to hang the lid on the body of the grill while cooking uncovered. Where does one put the hot lid while working on the grilling food? On the deck? Have your spouse hold it? A good design would have the lid secured to the grill body with a hinge or swivel like the "Big Boy"grills.

Make sure you remove and store the temperature control/power cord following use as it is not weatherproof.

The self-adhesive temperature setting indicator disk on the control unit knob fell off during my first use. A little dab of epoxy fixed this defect quickly.I think Char-Broil should tighten up QC.

The price of replacement parts is outrageous.

If you get beyond my caveats, stainless steel construction is nice, the grill cooks well, takes little deck space, moves easily, and looks attractive in Star Wars R2D2 sort of way. Amazon also sells a reasonably priced grill cover that is a worthwhile addition.

Weber 7542 Cast Iron Griddle Review

I use this on a Summit Gold 6 burner grill. With the side burner, the regular section of the grill, and this griddle I can cook almost anything outside. Cast iron gets hot and retains the heat. I was considering Mario Batali's piastra, but this has a larger cooking area and I think will be more durable. Too bad it didn't come seasoned.

I heard a commercial for this about 3 or 4 times one evening, and I finally paid attention after barely listening to it the first few times.Once I saw that it had interchangeable, *dishwasher-safe* plates, I told my husband that I wanted it for Christmas.I popped over here to amazon and ordered it right away.It got here before Christmas, but since it was my gift, I had to leave it alone until afterwards ;-)

A few things attracted me to the grill.Interchangeable plates, dishwasher safe, and the waffle plates.I had been looking for a new wafflemaker, and in fact had looked at the store the night I saw the ad for the G5.The one we've had for 11+ years is too small for our family now, and I wanted something bigger.However, it seemed silly to spend a lot of money on one since I don't make them that often.Imagine how happy I was to see the size of the plates on the commercial!

Let me tell you, I was not disappointed with my first waffle go-round a couple of days ago.It makes 2 waffles that are each just about the size of 2 typical square freezer waffles.That's what I'm talking about!I made up a batch of Bisquick waffle batter, and set to cooking.It was trial and error as far as learning cooking times.I like my waffles softer, my husband likes them crispier.I would say on average they needed to cook 5-7 minutes.I pre-heated the grill as directed, and poured about 1.5 ladles of batter on each side.I didn't get them perfectly full each time, but close enough, you know?We ate them, we liked them!I didn't have any issues with them cooking unevenly; each batch turned out just fine.

Yesterday my husband made grilled cheese using the steak plate and the baking tray (upper & lower).He tells me that he flipped it over so he'd have the same design on each side *insert rolly eyes here*, but otherwise it cooked just fine.

Last night I made chocolate chip cookies using the recipe from the cookbook that came with the grill.So cool!They were virtually impossible to screw up!I did cook them longer than the recipe called for after the first batch; cooking times I think are are things that will have to be judged individually for each recipe.There are guidelines in the cookbook and the instruction manual, but I don't think they're hard and fast.Experiment and see what works best for you :-)

This morning my husband was at it again, this time making scrambled eggs.I didn't get any (he ate them all while I was asleep!) but he says that they cooked the eggs in about 1/3 of the time as our gas stove.He was pretty happy with that.

I was pleased with the 2 drip trays and the better spatulas (also 2) that came with the grill, in addition to the cleaning sponge.I don't know how often I'll use the sponge, since the plates clean so easily by hand (and once again, they are dishwasher-safe!), but it's nice to have.I liked the other Foreman grills, but cleaning them stopped me from using them as often as I might have otherwise.They were just kind of a pain; if you've used them you know what I mean.

Get this grill :-)If you have realistic expectations and are willing to experiment to get just the right cooking times, then I don't think you'll be disappointed.I'm not!

Brinkmann 810-5301-C Smoke-N-Grill Charcoal Smoker and Grill Review

Ok. Pound for pound this is the ultimate smoker for the price. I've been smoking (food) for the past 17 years and the Brinkmann has never failed to produce! The only problem I've had with it was getting a 24 pound Thanksgiving Turkey out without it falling apart and me burning myself. To tell you the truth I forgot how I managed to get the Turkey out but everyone raved over it's flavor! Filled the water pan with wine instead of water. Ribs, Tri-tip, Chicken and my favorite, Salmon have all come out perfect! The trick is keeping the coals hot throughout the duration of cooking time calculated. 4 racks of Ribs (6 hours), the rest half that time. I've had a total of 6 of these (sometimes using 2 at once) throughout my 17 years of smoking. Enjoy! BDM

Weber 7553 Genesis Series Cover Review

When I purchased my new Weber Genesis grill I wanted to get a nice cover to protect it.Amazon had it listed as backordered so I went to my local HD to buy this Weber grill cover.When I open the box I immediately noticed the nice material quality.Put the cover on my new grill and it was a perfect fit.The velcro straps hold the cover on tight so it will never blow off in a wind storm.Then I noticed two large mesh vents, one above each side table.It didn't make sense to me, but hey I'm sure Weber knows what they are doing.Then a few days later it rained on my new cover.The next day I went out to pull off the cover and both side tables had large water puddles on them.That's when I found out that when water collects on the side tables, it will drain into the cabinet below the grill.Frustrated, I went to Amazon again and read the reviews on the cover.Several people mentioned a rear vent but none mentioned any side vents.So I purchased the cover from Amazon and waited several weeks for it.I was excited to see on the box pictures that it didn't have side vents.As I pulled the cover out my excitement turned to disappointment that it had side vents and no rear vent.This cover is useless with the side vents.I will be returning it.If this is Weber's new design, I will be purchasing a generic grill cover.5 stars for the cover durability and velcro straps, 0 stars for the side vent design.

Update 11/09/07: By trial and error I was able to find a Weber grill cover with a rear vent at a different HD.This is a much better design than the side vent version.Unfortunately, you cannot tell which version you are getting by only looking at the box.The boxes are identical down to the date code markings.

Hamilton Beach 25219 HealthSmart Contact Grill, White Review

This grill seems inspired by the smallest George Foreman grill, the "Champ." But there are some significant differences: (1) The Champ has a square grilling surface. This one's is oval, with perhaps a slightly smaller area.

(2) The Champ has an open front, with a separate little splash tray that's supposed to catch drippings. This grill has a lip surrounding most of the front, except for a 2" well that drains into an integrated drippings drawer. (3) The Champ is tilted forward to force liquids to drain out. This grill is basically level, with drip channels.

So I bought this one, which seems less messy -- especially for gooey stuff like cheese panini -- and more flexible. If you block the well with a strip of cardboard, you can even use it to cook omelettes or a kind of waffles. The only downside to the lipped front (vs. the Champ) is that you need to scoop veggies off the grill, rather than simply dragging them out the front. There is no timer or on/off switch -- you just plug/unplug it.

The upper plate floats maybe about 1" above the lower plate. If you want to press thicker panini, consider the Hamilton Beach 25450 Panini Press, available on Amazon for about 2-1/2x the price. It similarly doubles as a contact grill, but it's larger in all dimensions, with about 3"-4" of vertical float. (Its plates have pinstripe ribbing, though, so don't try using it for eggs or waffles.) Or the similar Breville SG620XL, which has flat plates that can be used for fried eggs or pancakes.

I took a chance and purchased this griddle about 1 month ago and after using it several times I can highly recommend it. Prior to using it for cooking I seasoned the griddle with shortening. This is easy to do and you can find some very good websites on how to care for and use a cast iron griddle. Thus far I have cooked bacon, eggs and pancakes using this griddle with excellent results each time. It fits perfectly on my Weber E-310 gas grill.

Waring Pro Electric Indoor Grill and Griddle Review

Our faithful little George Foreman grill was ailing.The nonstick plates stuck; it didn't seem to get as hot as it did before.As though reading my mind, Amazon brings up this Waring grill in the gold box, and I decide to give it a chance.

Does it work?Yes!Are the nonstick plates suitably slippery?Yes.Does it cook the food properly?Absolutely.Is the adjustable temperature a neat feature?Sure, although it's not that big of a deal.Does it do a good job grilling things like chicken breasts, sliced eggplant, and other low-fat entrees?Mmmm, indeed it does.

Does it create an incredible mess on those occasions when you want to cook thicker, inherently greasier entrees, like bratwurst?And how.

One of the advantages of the Foreman series is the way the whole cooking surface slopes gently downward.This results in any grease and oil running quickly and efficiently off the cooking surface and into the waiting container.

The Waring features a completely level cooking surface, with just a notch cut in one corner that allows the oil to drip out into the cup.Thus, as fat liquefies and leaves the food, it tends to stay where it dripped, rather than run in any particular direction.Of course, since it's a very hot cooking surface, the oil bubbles, hisses, spits, and sends out a 360-degree spray of greasy spatters.And since your meat is, by design, propping the grill open, those spatters have absolutely nothing stopping them from coating your surrounding counter top, and oftentimes the nearby floor.Cleanup is made easier if you cover the counter with paper towels beforehand, but that's kind of a wasteful hassle.

So, honestly, we'll probably get rid of this messy thing and look into another Foreman.That slope makes a heck of a difference.

This is something that had been on my wish list for a while.I had not used one before but I liked the concept.Finally got one for my birthday a couple of years ago, and this has grown into one of my favorite tools.For bacon, nothing is better.I cook up 5 pounds at a time and freeze in 4-slice packs, and this little beauty makes the cooking process easy.Nice flat pieces that are great for that after-work BLT.Works great for panini and is definitely cheaper and easier to use than a specialized machine that does the same job for 5 times the price.

Although I have previously owned a similar Brinkman Elcetric Smoker with a temp control dial and a thermometer, this new smoker appears to have been designed and built by people who have virtually no idea of the word craftsmanship.Besides having a missing part from the sealed plastic bag, I had to bend all three handles so I could line up the pre-drilled screw holes.I had to jerryrig a missing V clip--a support for the water pan.Because of all this, it took more than two hours to assemble.Shoddy workmanship, no temp gage, and no heat control make it a reach for me to even give this smoker two stars.

It's difficult for me to give this item a specific number of stars, because though I ordered it from Amazon and received it. . . I returned it and didn't use it.So I'm giving it 3 stars.That's not to say it's not a good item, it just wasn't for me.Let me explain why. . . . .

First, there were not previous reviews, and only one (poor) picture.When I received the item, it was (more-or-less) as expected.I thought the quality was fine.The size was nice.But here is why it was not for me.First, when you read the owners manual, you will see that you are NOT supposed to preheat this unit.I'm unsure how you're supposed to sear a steak if you don't preheat.The owners manual said that if you preheat then it will discolor the grill.. . . . As for the grill. . . it's not a heavy-duty "grate" type, that I would have liked to have seen.It's a thin stainless wire type.Though again I never tried it, I wonder if you preheat if the grill would warp.Not sure, but I expect it might.The owners manual also recommends that you cook with the lid open, as much as possible.

There is a large heating element and a "heat tray" that goes over the top.I can imagine that this "heat tray" would be covered in drippings.As it's stainless, it can probably go in a dishwasher, but I would think that you would probably still have to do a little scrubbing.

There are no "lava rocks" in the bottom, which you will find in a few electric grills.I like the "lava rocks" because the drippings smoke, and you get more of a grill/smoky flavor. I had a Char-Broil which had this before, which I really liked. . .except. . .as you will read in several of the reviews.. .it would overheat, and finally "burned-up".If it were not for that issue, I would get another Char-Broil.

Another thing that the owners manual recommends is that you line the bottom and the top with foil to make cleaning-up easier.I would HIGHLY recommend that, because otherwise it's going to be a MESS to clean this grill up.

They also recommend that you use "Bar Keepers Friend" (over and over they write this) to clean this item.

FYI, this company makes (I believe) three different types of grills, and they all look about the same, so make sure if you get one. . . that you get the one that fits your needs.#1, they make an electric grill (that's this one).#2, they make a gas grill.#2, they make a "hybrid" which will work with both electricity and gas.

Finally, even though I never plugged it in, there are a few things I liked about this grill.As I stated previously, it's a nice size.It would be easy to take from place-to-place.There are "feet" which retract for easier storage.It certainly looks good.But in the end, it just wasn't what I was looking for.

OH!One last thing.The picture that is listed as I write this review has a "blue hue" to it.This item is stainless steel (silver) and does not look blue in any way.

Meco 9320 Electric Cart Grill, Satin Black Review

I'm "REALLY!" in to a healthier lifestyle, and subscribe to "several" respected health e-zines.

1. 15+ years ago I read tests that charcoal BBQ's- really put "LOTS" of very bad carciniogens into your meat!

2. So I went to a gas BBQ. Not as good tasting as charcoal, but "SUPPOSEDLY" healthier?
NOT!- Now I read tests that gas BBQ's are little healthier than charcoal! The "deadly" carciniogens are in the drippings smoke- coming from the hot lava rocks below!

3. So I now go to the MECO electric grill.
Pros-
a. Healthier- as virtually no smoke (grill/elements are steeply slanted, and drippings collect in a handy pan under the grill).

b. No having to mess with expensive propane gas...

c. Well made, and sturdy.

d. Low fire danger- Acceptable for most apartment complexes. ASK!

e. Sears steaks well (preheat on high for 15+ min, and close lid FAST! Requires a "Heavy Duty" electric outlet!). Cooks just as fast (or faster) than gas. BUT, "NO!" BBQ taste! You will probably need a marinade...
Good "web search" recipe I found for steaks...-
I pre-mix & rub in, a blend of-
salt ("AlsoSalt"- is very healthy and GOOD tasting!), black pepper, chili powder (all in equal parts...), and a little cayenne pepper. You can also add any other seasonings you like, to taste...

PAM makes a "High Temp" cooking spray, for the grill ONLY (leaves a "varnish like" residue on pans!).

AMAZING! CLEANING TIP, for burned on... foods!!!This works on ALL pans/grills...-
1. Clean/scrub conventionally..., as best you can.
2. Mix a little water with Comet, and make a paste. Wipe on burned surface. Place in a sealed plastic bag/garbage sack..., and leave for 24 hours.
3. Should now clean easily with Dawn & scouring pad... (may take two applications?).

4. Cons-
a. This is difficult and time consuming (2+ hours! & I'm VERY handy!), to assemble!
Tips- Pounding on the axel end caps was a challenge (finally laid it on it's side, and put a 1/4 drive socket (for backing, on the other end)) & hold cap with pliers.

You will surely drop screws...!!! (I put an old sheet underneath it).

This is standard grill grate. NO flip-up sides as the description states. Not exactly what I wanted but it'll do. The handles cutdown on total grill surface area but do provide a medium size hole to drop in more charcoal. Hopefully someone at Amazon revises the item description.

This is my 3rd grill bought in the last 15 years.Had 2 Broil Kings.My previous grills did an adequate job but having been using the E-420 Summit for the past 5 months has made me realize why Weber is the "King" of BBQ grills.Prior to purchasing, I was convinced this time I would go "high end" so I checked out brands such as Vermont Castings, DCS and others in the top level.I settled on the Weber after visiting the dealers and comparing the materials.Weber has the best price/quality available.This purchase was made during the winter months (best pricing from dealers who are out to unload inventory).
Performance has resulted in the food tasting great with even temperature throughout the majority of cooking surface.Unlike my previous grills which had identified hot spots, BBQ'ng and Grilling can be done without continuous shifting of food to attain eveness.When cooking chicken (with skin) or other fatty meats, flare-ups are kept to a minimum with the grill design, as well as drainage and clean-ups.
The packaging is well thought out with minimal assembly required.Weber after sales service is likewise, just as excellent as the product.After the initial hook-up to the natural gas line, the side burner would not light up consistently (sometimes taking as many as 10 pushes on the ignitor).Customer Service immediately gave me suggestions to further trouble-shoot and when nothing worked, swiftly sent me a new burner ring and it has been "one click" since.
My other grills were good but this one is great!They lasted more than 7 years each but the Weber looks like its going to last a lifetime.I highly recommend this product to those who love grilling often.My tip is to get the natural gas model as the burners are powerfull.Having the propane version, a spare tank plus countless trips for fill-ups, will be a necessity.

West Bend 6111 Heart Smart Indoor Grill, Black Review

I have used this grill with great pleasure. It's large enough to hold enough food for 4 servings, plus the griddle comes in handy for toasting buns and such. I haven't had it smoke at all. It grills just like outdoors, including the grill marks. And I can have something grilled and on the table fast. No one has to go out on the deck to cook. It's all done on the countertop. I can't say enough good things about this grill. Cleanup is easy and fast, two of my favorite words in the kitchen. I did a lot of research and reading reviews before making this purchase. I believe I found the best of the indoor grills out there.

One of the few drawbacks, if you can call it that, of the Weber Kettle Grill is the lack of a shelf on which to place your food, cutting board or platters.I own the earlier wooden shelf that sits atop a frame fastened to one of the grill legs.It works well enough, but you can't easily remove the frame if you want to store the grill and you can't use a cover if the frame is attached.
Enter the Weber 7412 Work Table!The unit clips to the bowl and can be easily detached.The surface area is much larger than the earlier model too.The hard plastic construction assures that the table will stand up to even the most ardent grillers.The legs snap into place and can be easily removed for storage.One nice feature is that the table can be positioned anywhere along the grill bowl.This is accomplished by creating a cutout on the table that enables you to position it over one of the grill handles.The three pegs on the front of the table will hold your favorite tools too.

Outdoor Great Room Cook Number Series Electric Grills Review

For someone like myself who wants a solid well constructed grill, this is a fine candidate. I like the versatility that comes with the griddle on the side. The porcelain covered grates appear very sturdy.

On the down side, as one of the few people in North American who read the owners manual, I was very disappointed. The book was not very helpful in laying out the workings of the grill. For example, I had to find out the hard way that the temperature dial is only for the probe and is NOT a thermostat for the heating element. Using a temperature probe is like cooking with training wheels and I see that as a useless feature.The manufacturer does in fact state how the grill can get to 500 degrees but no other control is available. This makes the prospect of making chicken or something of that sort that requires a lower temperature a bit questionable. But I will give it a whirl. But a VERY serious word of warning, DO NOT use the top of the grease catcher!!!!the material can not be properly cleaned and will cause fires!!! just line the grease tray with foil on each use and you'll be fine.

The manufacturer could not have been more accommodating, helpful and wonderful in answering my inquiries.

So far I can't take issue with performance or function and give this grill a thumbs up

Brinkmann 852-7080-7 Gourmet Charcoal Smoker and Grill, Black Review

Have had two of these.They perform pretty well (for the money) overall, but don't expect them to last overly long.The feet are made from sheetmetal, and are prone to rust.Regulating heat can be tricky.Thermometer is functional, but just barely.Having said that, they have surprisingly good capacity.I have smoked several turkeys over time with them, and had great results.Same thing applies with pork shoulders.It can be difficult to replenish both water and charcoal, but you can do it if you're not in a big hurry.

Weber 6507 Rolling Cart Review

I have a Q 120 with the fold out side tables. I cook for a men's Bocce Ball league and the Weber has been a great way to serve fresh cooked sausage, chicken and beef. Trouble was, it was about a 250 yard hump each way carrying the Q outstretched in front me to the Bocce Ball courts and back to the parking lot. After awkwardly carrying the Q back and forth a few times and making extra trips for the food- buying the scrawny looking cart seemed to make sense. The travel distance potential for my Q is only limited by my ability to walk (or climb). It does what it was designed to do and a little more when stacked with ice chests and dry goods. When not used as a dolly it simply converts to a patio grill table for home use. When not in use it folds flat for easy storage. All in all money well spent.In addition, the price from Amazon was 10 bucks cheaper than my local retailer. With super saver shipping in 3 days I wondered why I waited so long to buy. Save a back = Buy a cart!

HotSpot Notebook Portable Charcoal Grill Review

The Good:

I bought this grill for this summers motorcycle camping adventures.I can't think of a better use for this grill.Narrower main body section gives many options for tying down, and on my bike (a shadow 750) the bottom "foot hole" was able to go over and around my sissy bar and sit on my rack.Pretty sweet.2 up camping now comes with a BBQ!

The Bad (at least for motorcycle camping):

It is a bit flimsy (but quite stable when open for grilling).With care, I am expecting to get about 50 or so BBQs out of it.After it falls apart I am planning to go to a metal shop in town and have it re-fabricated in some heaver gauge steel.I would be willing to have a little heaver (and smaller) grill for motorcycle camping if it was durable.The grilling surface is large.Expect to need about 3 pounds of charcoal to get it going well, 6 pounds (an entire small bag) of charcoal for a full grill to feed 4+ people.This makes it a requirement to setup camp, and then ride out to get groceries and charcoal.Messy.

I've BBQ'd for years and have to say the "action" on this grill is quite good.If you really have a need for an extremely portable grill, I would definitely recommend it.If you are just looking for a smaller grill for car camping or porch cookouts I would recommend the more traditional Coleman and Weber portable grills with a lid and better durability.
